The teaching curriculum of the School of Data Science aims to provide students an exposure to all broad areas of data science. Many of our lab modules are designed to offer them an experience of carrying out research along with faculty members and PhD students. In addition to taking courses all BS-MS students majoring in Data Science undertake a 2 semester long research project (Major project). Many students majoring in other subjects (Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics) opt to do a semester-long Minor project in Data Science. Several major and minor projects have resulted in publications in peer-reviewed journals co-authored by the students.

The school offers several courses as part of the BS-MS, Integrated-PhD and PhD programs.

Major Courses

The core courses offered by the department can be subdivided into three buckets: a) Mathematics and Statistics, b) Computer Science, c) Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The goal is to provide the students with a balanced expertise in all of these three disciplines. Below the courses in each bucket are presented in a tabular format.

The elective courses offered by the department can be subdivided into two groups: Group I and Group II. Group I focuses on Mathematics/Statistics related topics and Group II focuses on Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning related topics.
